GP Earnings
NHS England require that the net earnings of doctors engaged in the practice is publicised and the required disclosure is shown below. However it should be noted that the prescribed method for calculating earnings is potentially misleading because it takes no account of how much time doctors spend working in the practice and should not be used to form any judgement about GP earnings, nor to make any comparison with any other practice. The average pay for GPs working in Birley Health Centre in the financial year 2016/17 was £51,937 before tax and National Insurance.  This is for 3 full time GPs and 4 part time GPs who worked in the practice for more than six months.

Dr Michael Boyle

Dr Boyle is very sad to announce the tragic loss of his daughter Laura recently, due to complications from her epilepsy. For obvious reasons he will not be working at Birley Health Centre for the foreseeable future.
If patients wish to make any donations in her memory he would like to support St Wilfrid’s Centre in Sheffield. https://www.stwilfridscentre.org Charity no 512021

Late Night Opening
As our Monday late night opening falls on two bank holidays at Christmas (Christmas Day and New Years Day) this year we are in the process of organising appointments at other times. Please ring the surgery for details.

Care Navigators
We are in the process of training our Receptionists to be Care Navigators. This is to provide patients with good quality information to be able to choose which clinician or service to access. By helping navigate patients to the right clinician or service first time, every time, it is hoped it will improve access to primary care and enhance patient experience. More information to follow soon.

Flu Vaccinations
The surgery is offering flu vaccinations for all eligible patients. Please make an appointment with a Health Care Assistant or alternatively ask when you attend your routine appointment. We can often get you straight in if you don't mind waiting 10 minutes. We also have a 'flu vaccination clinic' scheduled from 5.30pm on Monday 20th November 2017. Please call the surgery if you would like to book in.

Donation Received
A patient at Birley Health Centre, Clive Hawkins, recently completed the Sheffield half marathon in 2 hours 56 minutes and 7 seconds. He kindly nominated Birley Health Centre for his sponsorship and has raised £700.05. Some of this will be used to purchase a new wheelchair for Birley Health Centre patients to use in our building and we will buy other resources for the patients of the practice. THANK YOU CLIVE AND WELL DONE!!!!

Phase Worldwide
Dr Charles Heatley is joining 10 others in cycling from London to Paris at the end of May to raise funds for PHASE. As you may know, Dr Noble has been working for PHASE here and in Nepal. PHASE provides essential health care and health education for some of the poorest and most isolated communities in the world. Please help by donating to my fundraising page: Click Here

The average pay for GPs working in Birley Health Centre in the financial year 2015/16 was £70,029 before tax and National Insurance. This is for 3 full time GPs, 3 part time GPs and 1 locum GP who worked in the practice for more than six months.

Named GPs
The Department of Health require all patients to have a named, allocated GP and Birley Health Centre has signed up to this. All patients now have a named allocated GP on their computer records at the practice. Patients have the option to request a specific named GP (such request will be considered) and patients can telephone the practice at any time to find out who their named allocated GP is. This is purely an administrative requirement from the Department of Health and in no way at all restricts patients from seeing any doctor working at the practice. Nor does it ensure that a patient will always see their allocated named GP.
